Dating back to 1873, Almond cottage has been sympathetically renovated; furnished almost entirely with reclaimed, restored and reimagined pieces. With plenty of space for relaxation both inside and out as well as a range of modern amenities, the cottage is perfectly suited to coastal getaways with family and friends.
Designed with comfort in mind, every bed in the home has been chosen to offer a restful night’s sleep, from the lovely vintage super king that converts into two singles, to the decadent French linen-upholstered adult-sized bunk beds. The master bedroom ups the indulgence with its William Holland copper bateau bath, while the upstairs bathroom flaunts a nickel slipper tub and luxury toiletries. A wet room downstairs offers guests a convenient way to quickly de-sand after a day spent down on the beach.
Chic and well-equipped, the kitchen has a range cooker, underfloor heating and reclaimed marble worktops, with a cosy table and window bench for convivial breakfasts. The living room feels plush and welcoming, and in colder months, the open fire sets the scene for cosy evenings curled up on the sofa. When the weather’s warm and sunny, there’s the beautifully landscaped garden to unwind in. A terraced seating area with built-in benches offers a calming space for evening drinks, while suppers can be shared round the outdoor dining table, or inside in the dining area.
Almond Cottage’s location couldn’t be better—just a 5-minute wander from the subtropical gardens of the King George V Memorial Walk and the Hayle Estuary. A short 10-minute drive brings you to the golden surfing beaches of Gwithian. Much of this rugged stretch of coastline is dog-friendly year-round, making it a favourite for salty-aired strolls with four-legged companions.
Tucked beside a broad estuary, the town of Hayle is a small but vibrant place with deep historic roots, and was once the world’s most vital mining port, earning UNESCO World Heritage status in 2006. Hayle Beach begins at the estuary’s mouth - an internationally recognised birdwatching site - and stretches out towards Godrevy Lighthouse. Criss-crossed by cliff-top trails and panoramic sea views, Hayle was Cornwall’s first town to be awarded the ‘Walkers Are Welcome’ badge so those who enjoy exploring on foot will have an abundance of routes to choose from.
The town itself buzzes with cafés, restaurants, and supermarkets, while the family-friendly Paradise Park wildlife sanctuary offers days out for families. The newly built North Quay development has stylish eateries overlooking the water, and boutique shops to peruse. Hayle is also a perfect base for wider adventures like the Eden Project and Land’s End. Just across the bay lies St Ives, home to the world-class Tate gallery and golden beaches, while the charming Mousehole, Marazion and St Michaels Mount, and Porthleven are just a short car trip away.
